Opportunity Scholarship Program will start accepting apps October 18!

The D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP) provides District residents K-12 scholarships to enroll their children in a DC private school. Scholarship awards are up to $12,572 for high school and $8,381 for elementary and middle schools. OSP will begin accepting applications at the following events:

DPR pools start closing today, Aug. 10

On August 10, the Department of Parks and Recreation announced the 2014 outdoor pool and spray park closure schedule (see DPR Announces the 2014 Spray Parks, Outdoor & Children's Pools Closure Schedule).

Starting on August 10, outdoor pools will be closed on a rolling basis. The first outdoor pools closed are

  • Ward 5: Langdon Park Pool (2860 Mills Ave NE)
  • Ward 7: Kelly Miller Pool (4900 Brooks St NE)
  • Ward 8: Douglass Pool (1921 Fredrick Douglass Ct SE)

Please share the details about free lunches served on Saturdays at select DPR and DCPL sites

Are you a hero to the kids in your program, your neighbors, family members?   It doesn't take a lot.   All you have to do is share information about DC Free Summer Meals Program (meals served Monday - Saturday).   The flyer is available in PDF and JPEG, both below.

One City Youth is encouraging DC Free Summer Meals Program heroes to email their outreach efforts so they can be documented them and heroes recognized!

DPR's July 4th holiday schedule

The Department of Parks and Recreation has announced the agency's 4th of July schedule. The announcement details which facilities will be open and closed―hint: only Wilson will be open on July 4.
